Having a world leader go to areas needing help can draw attention to those needs and encourage further action.

However, when that self-centered leader has already made a name for himself as a self-promoting asshole who will use anything and anyone as a photo op, it does nothing more than spread cynicism and cost precious dollars.

There is no reason Harper has to go to Haiti himself to assess the situation.
