Come on! It isn't fair for Canada to claim this prestigious prize. Afterall, not all Canadians helped achieve it.
Canada has been awarded a Fossil of the Day “award” on the first day of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. “Canada garnered today’s award for its unwavering commitment to stand firm in its inaction throughout these negotiations.”
This should go exclusively to Harper, his CONs, and every damn person who supports them. You earned it, wear it.
First day! Way to go, assholes.

Can an 'old fogie' try his hand at being a fossil ? My moniker is an acronym for olde phartte in training.
Anyhoo, I recall the best part of what disinformation does : it messes up facts so badly nobody can tell if they are afoot or horseback.
But I try to remember to challenge my parameters and see what I am overlooking : operating under the motto that the 'things I know that aren't so' are a major problem.
And when the emails scandal broke it was time to review 'global warming'.
I don't even remember what odd search parameters I used,,,but what surfaced was an immediately recognizable scam verified by madness I had been observing in U.S. foreign policy.
It involved the NPT and scaremongering about how the people who didn't have nuclear weapons were the real threat.
That was a real Albert Nieumann ( Mad Magazine ) idea as far as I was concerned.
I first wrote it up at my.opera.com/oldephartte/blog...but remembered how many times I had 404 returns. So I redid it and added more at opitslinkfest.blogspot.com
And I had a mad mixup : NPT, energy policy, and global warming with international treaties and carbon trading to result...all current and imminent.
Did I have fun.
Starts on Dec 4 on Blogger.
Hi opit. Very courteous!
I don’t doubt that carbon trading is already being tailored to make big bucks. However, I think it’s more a case of unethical people trying to cash in on a real problem.
E-mails hacked into by a special interest group, picked over and quoted out of context to support what the group is determined to project, especially when these are internal e-mails from a single group of scientists does not dismiss all other evidence of warming and climate change.
Like you, I am old enough to remember when no one spoke of warming or climate change, but of the greenhouse effect. It took the government about two decades to admit such a thing existed, although anyone with the least knowledge of science could understand how and why this was occurring. And it ends up warming the planet, which changes our climate. Not rocket science, but still needed to be backed up with facts. There are more than enough for me to have no doubt at all that the planet is warming, and that human activity contributes to it.
Even if I had never read a single thing on warming, I could not ignore what my own eyes and memory tell me. We do not have the same weather patterns we did when I was younger. All seasons are warmer, even here in Canada. The maps of Norther Canada don’t look the same because we now have open water where before there was none, and it is not freezing over as it once had.
Finally, in disputes that concern claims of hoaxes perpetuated to profit someone, I follow the money. Oil and coal industries have a lot to gain by making us believe we can keep pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere indefinitely. It is no coincidence that the people claiming to be scientists and who deny warming work for, or have close links to major oil companies. They are a tight, identifyable group.
On the other hand, for this to be a conspiracy to make money of carbon capture and trade, scientists and thousands of others would have had to have foreseen this over 50 years ago, would have had to work together despite different disciplines, would have had to have been content doing this even realizing that many of them would be dead long before the profits rolled in. The conspiracy would have to be global, cover roughly 70 years, involve several areas of study, count on thousands of scientists and activists being corrupt...
Sorry, in addition to what my eyes tell me is happening to our planet, that’s too big of a stretch compared to believing greedy oil companies are stirring up doubt so they can keep making profits.
Sounds like a fun exercise, seeing what you come up with using certain parameters. I love that kind of thing to get my imagination going, but don’t trust it for facts. Remember Chariots of the Gods? Inclusion of some facts, exclusion of others, rough - very rough thesis, and make it fit. DaVinci Code is a good example as well. Great source of fiction and conspiracy theories though!
Checked out your links site. That looks fun! I’ll link to it later today on my side bar.
