There were an incredible number of supporters of this bill:
In the course of Bill C-300's review in the House, thousands of Canadians wrote to support; it was well received by ministers and former ministers in countries where Canadian mining companies operate; it was praised by Canadian and international legal professionals, human rights advocates, faith-based groups, and trade unions; and it was welcomed by a United Nations special rapporteur, as well as villagers and organizations from hundreds of communities affected by Canadian mining companies in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
unbelievable! I wish voters would pay attention and hold them to account. If they think the majority of Canadians aren't that disturbed, they'll cater to the money every time, this bunch.
oh, but the long gun registry...now there's something people who don't read past headlines think is real important shit.
I don't know if he can lead without baggage and I don't mean the NDP hatred for the guy. He facilitated Ignatieff's coronation after the final twist of the knife in Dion's back.
Maybe their best hope is Gerrard Kennedy. He seems to be quite well respected across party lines.
I like Kennedy. Solid, seems ethical, speaks well...and looks damn good which doesn't translate into good policy but helps image-wise. Don't know if enough of the party would back him. I really liked Dion, but his party sure let him flounder. I'm starting to see why. Too many like Ignatieff, I think. Back corporations.
Too many Ignatieff types for sure. Maybe he should take over Layton's job :-)
From what I recall, Kennedy had a great deal of support from younger members. I think that is critical for bringing in untapped votes. It certainly worked in Calgary.

That sure doesn't leave those 14 LPC and 4 NDP parliamentarians in very good company.

Any suggestions?
No shortage of scandals but nothing sticks to them?!?!
Both Ignatieff and Layton should be replaced. Too many people who hate and distrust Harper are just frustrated by the alternatives.
I don't see Layton as an option either. He has backed Harper too many times as well.
I like Bob Rae. What do you think of him?

that's good to hear - about the younger voters. Thanks. I don't get a lot of traffic, but I'll post on him whenever anything comes up.
