Happy Thanksgiving

For those who celebrate it, and for those who don't, best wishes to you that there will always be some bit of wonder in your life that gives you reason to be thankful.

I've been putting off writing this post because so much is up in the air right now, but I will likely stop blogging for awhile.  There are several reasons, but the biggest has to do with the threat we who post online face in the changes fat steve wants to implement.  Those changes will shut down people like me.  We may be forced to use our real names and since my workplace policy allows personal blogging, we must never give even the impression that we are blogging as an employee.

We can use our real names, but then we need to self-censor what we write in case anyone thinks we speak for our workplace.  What's the point of calling for free speech, the right to protest, and the right to criticize our government's actions if we are muzzled?

There are other ways people like me can still contribute, though, and I have been mulling over a few ideas.

Today I am thankful for many things:  my wonderful family, this beautiful land I live in, this country which, while facing danger under an atavistic leader is still a place where we have more freedom than many people on this planet; I am thankful that I am not deluded by superstitions, and I am thankful for being a creature with memory so that I can remember those terrific people who are no longer around.

I am thankful for this news that gives hope that change may come, and this news that people will not stand for being muzzled and are pushing back.

I'm very thankful that the people of Ontario had enough awareness and smarts not to elect Hudak (though my riding did re-elect that moron Hillier), and thankful that the majority of voters do not support fat steve.

As always, I am incredibly thankful for all of you out there who continue to blog day after day despite the times it seems futile.   You kick journalists' butts and I believe it makes a difference.

Finally, I'm thankful that The Evil Puppy has at last exhausted herself from barking at the wolves who are howling at the full moon and she is out for the night.

If you are in Ottawa on October 15, we may see each other:

The Occupy Wall Street movement is coming to Ottawa, with plans for a "general assembly" in Confederation Park on Oct. 15.

900ft. J. sorry to hear about this censoring. Harper is good at it. But my friend if you're a civil servant then you have to be careful anyway. Despite all the freedom of speech slogans civil servants’ bosses are politicians and they can impose their will.

that's exactly right, LeDaro. The Whistlebower act is useless, and as you say, even public servants have to be careful now that harper has been exercising a strangle hold and replacing so many upper managers with his own people.
