Sure, I see the similarities

(picture)
Stephen Harper is being hailed as a modern-day “Abraham” for his defence of Israel in a recent speech to a conference on combating anti-Semitism.

Sure!

Harper takes his orders from an invisible sky monster demanding that we simply follow along, as did Abraham.

Harper is opportunistic, as was Abraham

Harper lies, gives the orders, then hides because he’s a coward, putting others in the line of fire and treating the innocent as criminals, as did Abraham

Harper casts women into the wilderness to fend for themselves when they are no longer useful to him, as did Abraham

Harper is willing to send those he is supposed to protect to their deaths just to suck up to power in the hopes of benefiting personally from the sacrifices, as did Abraham.

Have to admit, the bit about the great, virtuous Abraham marrying his own half sister  (Gen:20:12)  is not like harper.  He’d be more inclined to marry his clone.

Gods and other monsters…even today some people continue to praise the most vile as virtuous.

In faith is all ruin is possible. In belief lies the shattering of the world. In thought lies the spark of enlightenment. In reason lies the tool of evolution. In morality lies the hope of our species. In doubt lies the salvation of mankind.

It is amazing how often we confuse faith and belief for morality and reason in order to discard doubt. The day we lack doubt is the day our world will stand still. Faith and belief allows us to create virtue in the vile. I don't want to go so far as to say they are evil (I am not one for moral judgement), rather I would say they are very very dangerous. Harper is a product of that danger and like Abraham he will continue to act for his own gain, even if it means climbing the corpses of his people to reach his ultimate aim.
