Reverend Meredith is having a little trouble turning the other cheek.

Even when the offense is an imagined one.

Don Meredith...slammed ...Ignatieff and (Jennings) for Ignatieff's use of the phrase "wait a cotton-pickin' minute."

In a statement, Meredith said the use of that phrase was "at the very least, insensitive, and certainly offensive to many people."  Meredith said it's a phrase that "hails back to a time when slavery was acceptable and an entire group of people were held to be lesser than others because of the colour of their skin."

Except it isn’t

Have yourself a nice cup of tea, Don.  A few deep breaths, a prayer for serenity...
(Marlene) Jennings, whose ancestors were, in fact, slaves in Alabama, laughed at Meredith's accusations.  "I am not offended when someone uses the phrase cotton-pickin'. It's part of the vernacular," Jennings said. "I think the Conservatives are desperate to change the channel."

I think Marlene is most likely right.
