Actually, my turn to apologize

I jumped all over Reilly and Ignatieff, didn't think things through, took something out of context and used tunnel vision.

Mandatory sentences aren't a good idea.  They assume all cases are the same, regardless of circumstances and the individuals involved.  That's what John Reilly was trying to say, and while he may not have been graceful with his words, it's still pretty obvious that's what he meant. 

Reilly had the courage to reaffirm his belief that mandatory prison sentences, even in the case of sexual assault, would not always serve the public in the best way possible.  Allison and Scotian explain this well in the comment section here.
