Wow. Just wow.

h/t Galloping Beaver

Can we please, please, please vote these guys out?  Seriously, Canada, we are at risk of suffering such a blow to our self-esteem we may never recover.  This is what passes for leadership?

Canada's auditor general has rebuked the Conservatives for recycling an unrelated quote by her about a previous Liberal government's security spending in a parliamentary report on the costs of the G8/G20 summits in Ontario last summer, CBC News has learned.

...The report quoted the auditor general as saying: “We found that the processes and controls around that were very good, and that the monies were spent as they were intended to be spent.”

Fraser said the Conservatives inserted an 2010 comment she made during a CBC News interview on security spending by a previous Liberal government after the Sept. 11 attacks a decade ago.

Forget self-esteem.  We are in the realm of Orwell.   "He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future." - 1984

I really don't get how Harper and his CONTEMPT party can retain such a lead in the polls?

His promoting an air of stability, the "staying the course" meme, seems to be working. It reminds me of the New Force (fuerza nueva) fascist party in Spain who feed on the public's insecurity and try to present fascism as the best form of government for securing stability.

his popularity as leader dropped sharply since this morning. Finally. The leaked AG report hit too many gag reflexes, I think: massive waste of money, more lies, porkbarrelling, and a real slap in the face for other cities, Toronto in particular after the damage it took due to the G20. Baird says the 50 mill was a thank you to Huntsville and area for hosting the G8. Of course people in Toronto will fume.

Also, the con drop in Ontario and the Atlantic provinces, while slow, is pretty steady - same place the Libs are making slow gains.

I didn't think enough people would react to the leaked report, but I'm hoping I was wrong.
